COURSE OVERVIEW
Environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria are the set of operational standards that socially
conscious investors increasingly use to screen companies as potential investments. They are also
used by prospective job applicants to evaluate if a company shares similar ethical and sustainable
values to theirs.
On the Professional Diploma in Sustainability & Environmental, Social and Governance course,
participants will obtain detailed insights into ESG principles from experienced lecturers and
practitioners in the field. The 10-week professional Diploma will cover the following areas:
• Definitions and business applications of ESG
• How to construct an ESG framework
• The impact of ESG standards on a company, its customers and investors
• The fundamentals of sustainability planning for business
• How to manage and build a sustainability plan and support team
• How to promote and leverage successful sustainability and ESG programmes with a focus on the
following:
– Sustainable Finance
– ESG in Capital Raising and M&A
– ESG integration and asset allocation
– ESG criteria and rating methodologies
– Global financial markets to align investment with net-zero and sustainable, long term value
– Metrics, methodologies of high ESG portfolios with consistent, comparable and available data
on ESG performance.

Week 5 Leadership Responsibility: | How companies deal with corporate leadership, responsibility and transparency around executive pay, audits, internal controls and shareholder rights issues |
Week 6 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG): | Definitions and business applications of ESG/how to construct an ESG framework. |
Week 7 Sustainable Outcomes: | The impact of sustainability and ESG standards on a company, as well as its customers and investors. |
Week 8 Sustainable Businesses: | The fundamentals of sustainability planning for business. |
Week 9 Sustainability Plan: | How to manage and build a sustainability plan and support team. How to promote and leverage successful sustainability & ESG programmes. |
Week 10 Review and Assessment Workshop | |
Module Assessment | a 3,000-word dissertation which covers one of the following concepts: Corporate Social Responsibility; Sustainable Justice and Rights; Sustainability and Environmental Social Governance and Practice; Sustainable Business and Outcomes. This dissertation should include two parts: (a) the definition and understanding of the concept you have chosen to cover; (b) how this concept would be applied within a business context. |
