What are the Pre-Sessional Courses?
The Pre-Sessional English programme is an Academic English programme for the purpose of preparing English language skills for higher education in Ireland. This course is offered for 4 weeks.
Start date for the next course is Monday January 15th 2024.
Final day of classes will be Friday, February 9th.
Classes will be delivered online via Zoom from Monday through Friday for 20 hours/week. This will include afternoon sessions Monday – Friday from 14h00 to 17h30, and an additional session on Friday mornings from 12h00 – 13h45:
Please note that students will also have two hours per week of tutor-directed study.
This is not an ILEP programme and as such, is not eligible for student visa purposes.
Who are they for?
These classes are geared largely toward students whose current English level falls just short of the required score for their chosen Undergraduate or Post-graduate course.
Participants who successfully complete the pre-sessional programme with the minimum required score for their programme will advance to a required interview for the Independent College admissions process. Students must have a minimum attendance percentage of 80% to progress and must participate actively in classes to be marked present. On successful completion of their course, participants will also receive a certificate of completion with their achieved English language score.
Please note that it is also possible for confirmed Independent College students to elect to join as well, for the purpose of refreshing their academic English skills in preparation for higher education.
This programme is designed solely for the purposes of applicants preparing for Independent College programmes and is not available to outside applicants.
How much are they?
Fees for the pre-sessional English course are €300 for the 4-week programme. These fees must be paid in advance to start the pre-sessional course and are non-refundable.
The fees paid for the pre-sessional course are deducted from the total tuition fees of their degree programme at Independent College.
How do I join?
Any students interested in the pre-sessional English classes will fill out the online Pre-Sessional application form, and complete payment before joining classes in June.
